After much research I decided to plunge. The Roland Blues Cube Hot is perfect. Having the control over the output is very important with many neighbours within hearing range and a need to play later in the evening for my commitments.
The tones the Blues Cube hot delivers are very usable from clean through to dirty and a wonderful reverb, this coupled with additional effect pedals, a Roland foot switch to hit the amp into "dirty mode" as I call it or the "boost" switch that is built into the Blues Cube Hot is loads of fun especially with an RC-3 Loop station.
All of this on the five watt setting. It does have a very surprising punch at volume and it does get seriously LOUD! I would say this amp will record very well, but have not had the time to play there yet.
I have tried the Blues Cube Hot with several different guitars from Fender Tele, Duesenberg 12, Gretsch, Acoustic Ibanez 12, Artcore Ibanez all of which sound really very very good.
I am still wearing the speaker in and have not tried direct out recording or really found what this amp will fully deliver.
I have no trouble recommending this amp for home or stage and would be confident in saying if you can't have fun with this beautiful amp I must be mad. Try one!
